We're Always Green, No Matter Which Color You Choose
When you adopt a Vintage Smart piece, you're not only saving a tree, you are reducing power consumption and greenhouse gases as well—because new furniture requires new lumber, electricity, and power plants.
You are also giving a new home to a piece that might have ended up in a landfill - not because it had no life but because it hadn't been cared for. The finish may have been worn, the hardware broken, maybe a drawer missing. Whatever it's blemish, we repair and rehab to bring it back to usable and desirable condition.
All of our paints are water-based; we do not use oil-based paints or lead paints and we limit our use of latex paints as well.
Researchers have found that a fresh coat of paint releases the highest quantity of vapors in the first four days but then out gases into the curtains, carpets and fabrics over a long period of time. Latex paint, in general, has a lower VOC content than oil-based paint. But still, the VOC in latex are high enough to cause or to contribute to ozone levels according to a report form the Environmental Protection Agency. Also, the EPA notes that ground-level ozone is a major component of smog formed in the atmosphere by the VOC in the presence of sunlight.
